Intraspecific Variability and Crossbreeding of the Branched Bur-reed

Abstract

Current intraspecific classification of Sparganium erectum, based on achene morphology, was confirmed by AFLP molekular marker and genome size estimation using flow cytometry. The hybrid origin of Sparganium erectum subsp. erectum was also verified as a stable hybrid between Sparganium erectum subsp. erectum and neglectum.

Moreover, admixed individuals between subspecies were detected indicating recent hybridization.
