Abstract

The paper introduces the basic characteristics of formative assessment in foreign countries and in the Czech Republic with the goal to outline the possibilities of development of formative assessment in the Czech Republic. Methodologically it is a review that analyses and summarizes especially theoretical approaches in the topic of formative assessment.

The aim of this review is to answer these key questions: the genesis of formative assessment; the collective characteristics of its definitions; the arguments of its implementation and the difficulties of the implementation.
