Luther's concept of theology and virtue ethics

Publication at Catholic Theological Faculty |

Abstract

The aim of this article is to explain Luther's concept of theology with particular regard to the place that it belongs to virtue ethics. First of all, we present Luther's definition of theology as a repentant knowledge of God and of man.

Then, we develop his hamartiological and soteriological definition of man. Thus, we show that Luther's focusing on soteriology carries the risk of the thematic reduction.

Finally, we discuss the issue of virtues ethics in Luther's concept of theology.
