Abstrakt
The chapter provides a state-of-the-art discussion of the concepts of democracy and democratization in political and social research. It discusses the contested nature of democracy, the procedural and substantive dimensions, the multiple understandings of democracy, and the current predicament of democracy in the age of 'post-democracy' and globalization.
