Political influence of special interests is a rich phenomenon, challenging for both theory and empirics. One of the key questions is whether the influence is through the provision of money, information, or both.
In this book chapter, I analyze how economic theory models information provision, communication, payments, and influence of special interests. Its main focus is on modeling tools and in the second part on several special topics, such as competitive lobbying, lobbying intermediation, and the role of the information structure.
