Population distribution

Abstract

The first thematic chapter covers changes in the size and distribution of the population and provides a preliminary general survey of population development in the twentieth and the twenty-first centuries. Its three sections show population figures at a district level, population density, overall population growth or decline and the population density of municipalities.

The chapter outlines those events that had a significant influence on changes in population numbers in Czechia, historical population maximum and minimum levels, both of which are related to movements of the German population and shifts in the geographical centre of Czechia. The map sheet assessing overall population growth uses - unlike other map sheets - data from annually statistics.

It thus introduces chapters dedicated to demographic and migratory processes.
