Demographic structures and processes

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2017

Abstract

The basic development of the demographic structure of population is summarized in five map sheets covering age structure and the ageing of the population, marital status, natural growth and abortion rate. This chapter aims less to explain overall demographic development in Czechia (because a separate atlas could be published just on this subject) than to show basic trends in a historical perspective.

Thus the chapter focuses on the impacts of important political events and legislative changes and also on qualitative changes in the value system of the society. Separate map sheets show the process of demographic ageing, changes in marriage behaviour and their effects on population structure according to marital status, the transforming influence of natural change on population growth/decrease, and significant changes in abortion rate.
