Abstract

The chapter focuses on two selected problems related to the very broad range of human activities that we can term culture. The first two map sheets show a significant change in religious beliefs among the Czech population in the course of the twentieth century.

A decrease in the proportion of believers is shown here with regional aspects and changes in the representation of the dominant churches and faith-based organizations. The second theme - nationality and citizenship - also shows a fundamental change of population structure in Czechia influenced mainly by significant political events.

The ethnic composition of the population, changes in nationalities and national minorities traced over the long term and the distribution of foreigners dwelling in Czechia are shown successively on three map sheets.
