Abstract

The chapter is focused on themes that have influenced settlement in separate historical periods in Czechia. The chapter covers the following themes in five map sheets: a unique delimitation of settlement agglomerations using Korčák's areas of maximal population density and the set of Hampl's regionalization of Czechia, which are a flagship project of Charles University social geography.

A separate map is dedicated to the central places system of settlement which was significantly shaped in the second half of the twentieth century and still influences the character of the Czech settlement system. Four different approaches are presented in the following map sheet which deals with the typology of urban, suburban, rural and peripheral municipalities, including one of the most cited concepts of regional sociology - Musil's inner peripheries.

This chapter and indeed the atlas as a whole conclude with the developmental aspect and the present state of the spatial distribution of settlements in Czechia.
