There is a difficulty with definig the theme of "devotion" from biblical point of view, for it implicates different biblical concepts and semantic fields. A very limited horizont of this paper presents firstly different attitudes of believers before God in the Old and New Testament.
A variety of genres in singular writings or in his parts, according a modality of cult, of prophetic and other religious-social currents during the history of salvation is taken in account. Secondly, the research in one lexical group of Greek expressions based on the root "seb-" is presented.
On this specific field, covering texts from the Septuagint and the New Testament, has been made visible that the biblical Jewish devotion - fear of the Lord - differs markedly from different forms of gentile devotion. The book of the Acts of the Apostles however demonstrates that a certain concept of pagan devotion in the Jewish ambient constitutes a positive disposition for receiving the faith in Christ.
