Abstract

A part of the national diabetological Program is recommendation of structured group education. The project of group education of the work group for education of the committee of the CDA for insulin-treated type 2 diabetics ran in 9 centres in 2016 yr. 62 patients of average age 63.3 +- 8.2 yr.

Underwent 8 hr tuitional courses including structured self-monitoring (sm) lessons and insulin dosage adjustment. SM, therapies, hypoglycaemia incidence, metabolic parameters were evaluated 1 week prior to the course, immediately and after 3 and 6 months.

Patients increased insulin dosage by 0.39 % by course end. Weekly numbers of measurements decreased by 3.84 % (from15.61 to 15.01 measurements /week/ patient).

Light hypoglycaemia incidence was 0.24 / week / patient at the start and 0.26 at the end of 6 months. Mean glycaemia improved significantly, prior to the sm course it was 9.69 +- 0.49 mmol/l, 9.02 +- 0.54 mmol/l after the course (p = 0.104), after 3 months 8.55 +- 0.56 mmol/l (p = 0.014) and 6 months 8.64 +- 0.69 mmol/l (p = 0.022).

Glycaemia variability improved significantly (p < 0.05). Improved values of glycosylated haemoglobin corresponded to this: 70.0 +- 16.2 prior to the course, after 3 months 63.7 +- 12.6 (p = 0.0001) and 6 months 63.1 +- 12.6 mmol/mol (p = 0.0001).

The educational structure effected control improvement also independently of measurement frequency.
