Abstract

Aim of this study is to express the views of experts on the function of static stretching and its effects on the musculoskeletal system. Professional community is united in the view on the positive effects of static stretching at the end of the training session, but not in the opinion on its function in the warm-up before exercise.

Functions of static stretching in terms of injury prevention has not been proved, but nor disproved, more and more experts are inclined to think that this function is performed particularly warm part of the warm-up. Professional community recognizes negative effect of static stretching on speed-power performance, but did not find enough evidence for a general exclusion from warming up.

Inclusion of static stretching to warm up and the way of its implementation depends on the nature of the load and for some sports remains an integral part of this process. The current trend is the transition to active forms of warming up.
