The contribution outlines Czech journalist Vladimir Sis' journalistic and cultural activity in two, different socio-cultural contexts - in Pre-war Bulgaria and interwar Czechoslovakia. In keeping with the main topic of the conference, we will try to answer the following research questions: who was Vladimir Sis - a cultual, hero, a trickster and/or an antagonist? How was his journaistic activtity during the Balkan wars evaluated by the different Balkan nations? We will also examine his journalistic and cultural activity in interwar Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia from Bulgarian and Czech perspective.
We will describe his contribution to developing Bulgarian-Czechoslovak cultural and political relations in the interwar period. In this context, we will ask another research question: how was his activity evaluated by his fellow countrymen and Bulgarians - as beneficial, ambivalent or harmful?
