Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2018

Abstract

The article deals with scout activity from the perspective of Jarmil Burgauser (1921-1997), famous musician and composer. It is based on his private diaries, which have not been processed by historians yet and are written in years 1940-1945 in ancient greek language.

These unique memories are brought to public for the first time. Center of interest is inner workings of 2nd prague scout section, which continued as a secret scout group in different structures till May of 1945 even after Junák was forbidden.

At this time Burghauser assisted to leader of group Jaroslav Foglar as a deputy. In the end of article there are discussed possible motives for Burghauser's usage of ancient greek language in diary entries.

The article concludes that it is most likely author's interest in culture of ancient Greek and effort to improve personal language skills instead of camouflaging secret scout activities.
