Abstract
The overriding aim of our analysis is to outline the most important strategies in translating Mallarmé's early poetry into Czech. Translations and adaptations by Vrchlický, Lešehrad, Čapek, Nezval, Hrubín are examined in detail in order to give a general idea of the way the Czech translators and poets approached Mallarmé's reputedly difficult poetry.
