The purpose of the international conference was to provide insights into questions connected with financial crises during the Middle Ages and early modern period and to contribute to the "little divergence" debate on long-term economic development focused on the reasons of economic growth and its deceleration. 21 speakers from 12 European countries included Peter Spufford (University of Cambridge), Martin Allen (University of Cambridge), Marc Bompaire (EHESS Paris) and other leading experts in the field. It was the second conference of its kind (the first one took place in Prague in 2013).
The conference volume will be again published in the Palgrave Studies in the History of Finance.
