The significance of MRI in diagnosing penile fracture in a case report of a 16-year-old boy

Abstract

Penile fracture is the rupture of one or both of the tunica albuginea, the fibrous coverings that envelop the penis's corpora cavernosa. Diagnosis can usually be determined from a patient's history and physical examination, but can be supplemented by a sonographic examination of the penis.

In uncertain cases magnetic resonance imaging can be performed, which, if available, can display the defect in the tunica albuginea with high precision.
