The paper presents one of the most famous and the most extensive Czech catholic hymn-book from the 17th century, i. e. Kancionál český (1683), which were compiled by Czech Jesuit Matěj Václav Šteyer.
The main goal of the paper is an anylyse ot the textual strategies that were used to gather many Czech Lutheran hymns into a catholic cearly defined hymn-book and to reinterpret them as catholic. Kancionál český is one of the most succesful attempts of Czech Catholics from the Early Modern Times to appropriate originally non-catholic hymns and to re-write them catholic.
