Patient with asymptomatic persistent proteinuria

Abstract

Asymptomatic persistent proteinuria has a varied aetiology and depending on the primary renal disease it can be either relatively trivial or it can be a symptom of future progression all the way to terminal kidney failure. A patient with persistent asymptomatic proteinturia should consult a nephirologist, who should consider renal biopsy.

The treatment depends on renal diagnosis - in some cases observation or supportive treatment are enough (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitior or angiotensin receptor blocker), in other cases immunosuppressive treatment is necessary and usually highly effective.
