Revolution Reloaded: Spaces of Encounter and Resistance in Iranian Video Games

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

This chapter analyzes the virtual spaces of Iranian video games and links them politically and historically to the places of their production. The focus of this chapter is on video games as spaces of encounter and resistance, as heterogeneous imaginaries of cultures and identities, and as assemblages of myths, ideologies, and gaming logic.

It is based on an examination of more than twenty video games developed in Iran between 2005 and 2011 and interviews with major Iranian game producers.
