Two years old in kindergarten - yes or no?

Abstract

From the point of view of research, we should rather ask for time spent in kindergarten, what will be the quality of care in the facility and what kind of family the child has. One of the main indicators of childcare quality is the number of children per teacher.

We have the opportunity to draw the answers from a number of in-depth and long-term studies dealing with the impact of non-familiar childcare on children. If we summarize what the research tells us, it is recommended to parents of toddlers (ie children aged 1 to 3) to give priority to individual child care.

When choosing child care in an institution: 1) One person should care for a maximum of 4 children; 2) The child should not spend more than 20 hours per week in the institution. If, in Czech conditions, two-year-old children are expected to enter nursery schools, it will be necessary to guarantee the quality of care by making a number of changes.

Above all, it will be necessary to increase the number of pedagogical staff.
