Abstract

It is a well-known fact that Martin Luther translated Bible from its original languages, i.e. the Old Testament from the original Hebrew, not from latin Vulgate or greek Septuagint. He also did not count additions present in the Septuagint for a part of the Bible canon.

Therefore, it may seem surprising that in one quote in his commentary on Psalms 1-22, he openly praises the Septuagint. In my paper I am analysing Luther's use of the Septuagint in Operationes in Psalmos.

By this analysis I am able to re-enact a part of his method and his evaluation of the Septuagint.
