Abstract

Over the last two decades since the fall of communism in the Czech Republic the society has experienced substantial changes. Studying the stereotypes is a key research subject that helps us understand the social changes.

The aim of the study is to explore the phenomenon of stereotype and to describe its actual content. The qualitative analysis aims at coding attributes the respondents generated after an open question.

We have discovered the key dimensions which according to our data make content of stereotype. The pattern of the dimensions is rather different by the ethnic categories and professional categories.

The two dimensions of competence and warmth seem to be not sufficient to describe the stereotype content while there are another dimensions describing e.g. perceived relation of the ethnic category towards the society which is an important element of the stereotype content.Using the descriptions enables us to explore the actual psychological content of stereotypes and also to discuss the ways of realizing the research in intergroup relations. Describing the stereotype content is crucial for the further research of intergroup relations.
