Abstract
Artistic research is seen in the context of contemporary art as an independent form of acquiring knowledge through artistic practices with their own methodology, epistemology, and an emerging canon. The text is an attempt to examine the "terrain" in which artistic research originates and whose boundaries are problematized by its existence.
In addition, the paper deals with the ethical dimension that a certain form of artistic research brings with it. By emphasizing the positive value of otherness, which can not be reduced to already known and usual categories of research, artistic research can serve as a model for thinking about the Other.
