This essay aims to characterize the Agrarian Party - the most significant political party in the era of the first Czechoslovak Republic, which has been defamed by the communist propaganda and subsequently forgotten. This thesis will discuss the democratic elements of the Party which played a vital role in the establishment, stabilization and the following existence of the Republic as well as recognize the contribution of Party representatives, mainly Antonín Švehla.
Especially the thesis focuces on long-term causes of the ban of the Agrarian Party and on the continuity of this ban with later establishment of the totalitarian communist régime in 1948.
