Abstrakt
Text explores strange cultural and creative places that emerged in times of oppression in socialist Czechoslovakia, places that might otherwise not be sought out or discovered. These places took on the role of a specific creative, artistic and cultural exile, a paradoxical hub that brought together official and unofficial culture, allowed the prohibited, loosened restrictions, and imbued the official with unintended connotations.
Theoretical treatment of strange places will be discussed in two subchapters from theater history. First, Petr Lébl's non-professional theater company, the second one is the official, subsidized theater Laterna Magika.
