PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) - benefits and risks

Publication at First Faculty of Medicine |
2017

Abstract

Pre-exposure prophylaxis is a new method to reduce the risk of HIV infection using two antiretroviral drugs - emtricitabine and tenofovir. Studies are presented that confirm the effectiveness of this method when used in vulnerable communities.

PrEP should be part of comprehensive prevention. Risks of use (economic, behavioral, side effects, adherence and professionalism), legal and practical possibilities of use are discussed
