Harmonization of bone marker measurements. Analytical minireview

Publication |
2017

Abstract

Contribution deals with current key problems in measurement of some important bone markers. Namely is referred on the parathormon (PTH), bone turnover markers (BTM) and on the FGF-23 and sclerostin as markers of bone and mineral disorders in near future.

Main problems are introduced. Stability, kind of samples, and choice of suitable method for routine analysis of field clinical laboratories in the case of PTH.

Strong dependency of reference intervals for BTM on the used method. region, age, sex. Necessity of using the harmonized measurement units for S-CTx and S-P1NP results.

Lack of modern, fast and comparable methodology for FGF-23 and sclerostine measurement.
