Abstract

In the interwar period there existed extensive diplomatic relations between Czechoslovakia and the Latin American countries. These relations were interrupted because of the German occupation of Czechoslovakia in March 1939.

However, during the war the Czechoslovak government in exile restored relations with LA countries. This paper focuses on the relationship between the Czechoslovak government in London and Colombia that acknowledged the Czechoslovak government in January 1943.

The purpose of this chapter is to make an analysis of how the government in exile tried to present itself and the First Czechoslovak Republic (1918-1938) as "the strength of democracy" before politicians and the people of Colombia. In addition, attention will be focused on how Czechoslovak diplomats perceived the situation in Colombia during the crisis of the Liberal Republic.
