Grandmother's Birthday in the Postmodern Czech Society from the Point of View of Grandchildren Living in the East Bohemian Town of Pardubice

Abstract

The presentation deals with grandchildren's perceiving of their grandmothers' birthday celebrations from the point of view of those living in Pardubice. Based on semi-structured interviews with children in the first grade, the image of grandmother as a birthday person is presented at first.

Then, the presentation shows children's perception of a course of birthday celebrations. Usual celebration scenarios and necessary attributes of birthday celebrations are presented as they are reflected by grandchildren.

Finally, the presentation points out the meaning that grandchildren attribute to their grandmothers' birthday celebrations.
