Abstract

Genius loci, when applied to the city, presents its unique character rather than a protective spirit of the place. This character allows individuals and whole groups of people to gain original authentic experience and perception of the place.

The aim of this paper is to contribute not only to contemporary approaches of cultural and historical geography, but also to focus on the marginal interest in the night-time geography and its possibilities and diversity. This is done on the example of Prague during interwar period, because during the 1920s, the whole society developed through a series of economic and socio-cultural transformations that naturally led to major transformations of the city and its genius loci.
