Aporie of the Slovenian Modernism : the Poetics of the Slovenian Poet Vida Jeraj

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

The topic of our paper is the Slovenian poet Vida Jeraj. She was an active member of the Slovenian modernists in the beginning of 20th.

Century. As all the other Slovenian modernists she had a hybrid identity.

She lived in different parts of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. She published just one anthology of poems and she was not accepted in Slovene literary society.

In the paper we analyse her poetical work. Her lyrical work is very intimate, in a way it is confessional writing, despite the fact that she also uses modern approaches.

Mostly she wrote impressionist poetry - with decadent passages interspersing the work and sometimes her work waxes symbolical. Her lyrical subject is part of the landscape.

With motifs from the nature she expresses her feelings and her reflections.
