Abstract

The paper aims to show how are the different roles and status of men and women in the Czech society reflected in the patterns of everyday commuting to work. We use Census data from 2011 on the city Prague.

The results show that men use car transportation more frequently whereas women rely on public transit or walking. Also, the commuting times are different: women most often commute less than 15 minutes and then between 30-59 minutes; men spend most often 15-29 minutes or over an hour on their way to work.
