The goal of the paper is to present an analysis of the varieties in formal personal apology letters that have been written by Ukrainian native speakers as examinees during the Czech Language Exam for Permanent Residence in the Czech Republic. The study does not present a complex analysis of the letters, but it concentrates on the selected linguistic phenomena tied to the commonly spoken informal Czech and its penetration into the formal written texts of non -native speakers.
The paper analyzes not only lexical and morphological elements, but also the elements of higher language levels and presents the Czech used in the mentioned exams as a specific variety of Czech typical for the Ukrainian user of Czech.
