Abstract

Agriculture and Food Consumption in the World and in Czechia. The composition of available foods differs significantly in different regions of the world.

This variety is due, in part, to differences in income (purchasing power), as well as cultural and religious influences. Differences between developed countries and developing countries are evident - the so-called Rich North and Poor South.

The share of foods of animal origin along with nutrient-rich foods is increasing worldwide; however, in some parts of the world, problems of insufficient food supply remain. Agriculture itself is changing.

In developing countries, the majority of economically active are employed in agriculture and yet, food shortages remain. Farms in developed countries are entering the post-productive phase, in which the primary goal is not simply to increase production of agricultural products, but to care for rural landscapes and to carry out non-agricultural activities.
