Teacher assistant's role in support of pupils from a different cultural and living surroundings. (State of the Czech Republic)

Abstract

The use of a teacher assistant is very important support in the education of pupils with special educational needs in the Czech Republic. Authors follow up on their previous study and on the base of previously formulated categories they analyse the data currently gathered in grant research focusing on the professional identity of teacher assistants.

In the category of assistants working with "pupils with the need to support education due to different cultural and living conditions", the key activities of the teacher's assistant include: 1. supporting pupils and teachers during teaching; 2. tutoring pupils; 3. support and mediation of communication between the school and the families of pupils; the newly presented data point out the potential benefits associated with the phenomenon of shared ethnicity of the assistant teacher and pupils.
