Abstract
In terms of sociology and psychology of religion the author analyzes the meaning of the moments of crisis in the spiritual lives of individuals as well as in the lives of societies. He searches for an analogy between the individual experiences of "dark nights", which according to the classics of mystic literature lead to deeper understanding of faith, and on the other hand the proces of secularization, which is not the end of religion, but its transformation.
