A Short Comparison of Social Standing of Disciminated Classes in Premodern Japan and Europe

Abstract

This article briefely compares the social standing of discriminated (or marginalised) social groups, connected with the concept of ritual defilement in early modern Japan and the social standing of the Unehrliche Leute (dishonorable people) in central Europe.
