The main goal of the present monograph was to provide an overview of the methods and research of assessment and monitoring the physiological status of Norway spruce stands in two areas of the Krušné hory Mts. located in the western (Přebuz area) and central (Kovářská area) parts of the mountain range accomplished during 1998-2015. The present research was conducted by the team of Jana Albrechtová and her collaborators during several scientific pro- jects.

The specifics of the Krušne hory Mts., such as extreme air pollution events and a gradient of severity in the air pollution load across the mountain range, have determined its suitability for investigations of the effects of air pollution on forest health. The book is monothematic with focus on monitoring forest health, though multidisciplinary regarding investigations combining methodo- logical approaches of different expertise to yield effective regional methods for large-scale monitoring of forest health, with emphasis given to the methods of remote sensing.
