Abstract

The book called Advocates of the Dead contains twenty-one interviews with Czech, Moravian and Slovak forensic doctors. It captures the thoughts, memories, experiences and opinions of the older generation of forensic medicine representatives.

The value of the book lies, above all, in the personal knowledge tied to the spoken reports of experts working at that time. Editors have been inspired by a modern method in contemporary historiography, the so-called oral history method, which underlines the importance of personal attitude toward communication and the communicated and reemphasized the role of so-called subjective testimony as a full source of knowledge of the past.

The interviews are preceded by studies where the authors present forensic medicine and oral history and summarize the process of interviewing and editing interviews. The book contains a biographical dictionary, as well as a name index, photos, and footnotes.
