Abstract The paper introduces the background of ongoing research, which deals with the interpretation of poetry in schools, especially its psychological aspects. The specific example shows what a poem in the psychoanalytic concept means, what is meant by the terms manifest, latent meaning in the poem, and unconscious understanding.
On analysis Halas's poem Hřbitov (The Cemetery) is also shown how the poem is composed and there is implied mechanism by which a poem in some of your readers can arouse strong emotions.
