Benedikt Ried, Karel Fiala and the Portal to the Old Parliamentary Hall in Vladislav Hall, Prague Castle

Abstract

The article examines the portal to the Old Parliamentary Hall considered a key early Renaissance work from the circle of Benedict Ried blending all'antica forms with local Late Gothic. It shows what the original appearance of the portal could be.

Great attention is primarily paid on what the portal looked like at the beginning of the 20th century during restoration works at Prague Castle lead by Karel Fiala. It studies the circumstances under which the portal was then restored.
