Prof. Josef Isensee is a leading German state scientist and legal philosopher.
His name is associated with the multi-volume encyclopedia "Handbuch des Staatsrechts der Bundesrepublik Deutschland" and a number of books elaborating on fundamental questions of constitutional law. His texts on the position of the state in the European Union, the principle of subsidiarity, the fundamental rights and the status of foreigners in the legal order of the Federal Republic significantly influence the public debate in Germany.
