Students' translation anthology: translation as a part of teaching language and literature and a challenge of making a book

Translating has always been an important part of second/foreign language teaching and the same is true about teaching Finnish language. Translation of fiction can be a part of language teaching, but in the ideal case the translation is taught by both language and literature teachers so that the students can take an advantage from the linguistic analysis as well as of the literary analysis.

The forms of instruction can have various forms. The translation is a very complex process which asks for a lot of effort both from the students - beginners in the translation field, and the teachers who have to edit their texts with a great amount of concentration.

Apart from the theoretical part, the article shows an example of the latest translation project - an anthology of seven Finnish fantastic short stories (with the title Forest Foxes and Other Disturbing Stories, Lesní lišky a další znepokojivé příběhy), which was published in spring 2016 by the publishing house Pistorius & Olšanská in their Scholares Series. In the end the stages of the translation process are being introduced as well as the surprisingly good reception of the published book.
