Abstract

The chapter in the book is addressing of the allegorical paintings were especially popular in the Late Midle Ages, treat the theme of the Eucharist in highly intriguing and pecular way. Educated adherents to Eucharistic Ortodoxy used them to present the stance of the Church in a polemic with heretics or church reformers.

Whether this was the Mystic Mill of St. Paul, Christ in the Winepres, the Allegory of The Seven Sacraments or Fountain of Life.

The subchapter addressing Eucharistic miracles provides their typology and notes their reflections in visual arts, whether presented as direct depictions of the miraculous event ( The Mass of St. Gregory, The Mass of Bolsena, The Mass of Lanciano), or in the furnishings of the respektive place of pilgrimage (Wilsnack, Walldürn, Košice).
