Reflections on the Past, Present and Future Perspectives of Teaching Training in Health Promotion

Abstract

The article presents a structured insight into teacher training in health promotion. It offers a review of the development of teacher training in the field of health education at the Pedagogical Faculty of Charles University.

Based on the outcomes of a research it shows the current state of implementation of the program of health promotion in primary and secondary schools. It also focuses on the involvement of graduates of health education in teaching practice and thus draws attention to its link to the current problems of education in the field of teaching education.

The paper presents the results of an analysis of needs in the teaching practice related to implementation of the field of health education into school curricula. It specifies new challenges aimed at improving the quality of teacher training in the field of health promotion.

A key requirement is to develop a system of health literacy of all teachers. For the preparation of teachers of health education it shows a need to better reflect the ongoing transformation of the health education curriculum in primary and secondary education in the operational part of their studies and as a result to update the accredited study programs.
