Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2017

Abstract

Language socialization is interested in how children and other novices are socialized through the use of language and how they are socialized to use language. The paper focuses on one particular routine that appears during socialization of Romani children in the Romani settlement in Eastern Slovakia where I did my research.

Children around the age of two were routinely prompted by there caretakers to take part in pretend quarells with other children or older family members. The paper focuses on social organization of these speech events and on the cultural context of these events.
