Abstract

Matěj Poláček was employed by German company (Grün & Bilfinger) and in the interwar spent several years in Angola and Argentina; after returning to Argentina in 1934, he unexpectedly had to stay in the country until the year 1946. Shortly before his death in 1975, he wrote a memoir, destined originally for his children and grandchildren, but could be of great interest also for historians.

The memoir reveals the economic and political practices of German companies in South America, details from the everyday life of the compatriot community as well as the details on the processes of construction of complicated engineering projects.
