Development of Intercultural Competences within Foreign Language Core Courses in Tertiary Education with Focus on Russian

Abstract

The article deals with the issue of intercultural competences in foreign language instruction. It focuses on activities suitable for Russian classes.

It outlines the relationship between cultural and language picture of the world and uses an associative experiment, which shows the often stereotypical ideas of the Russian world among Czech students. It suggests potential uses of the outcome of the experiment.

It also deals with the non-verbal components of communication and presents several tips on how to use it in classroom.
