Abstract

This is the first monograph on pain for general practitioners and primary care physicians. The book deals with pathophysiology of pain, types of pain and differences in pain perception (men, women, ethnic and geographical differences).

In detail, the most common types of pain that patients come to medical doctors (back pain, headache, abdominal pain) are discussed. Great attention is paid to the treatment of pain in primary care, where all pharmacotherapies are listed as the main pain treatment method of primary care.

It is also important for primary care physicians to be informed about non-pharmacological types of pain management (neuromodulation, acupuncture, psychotherapy). Primary care physicians and GPs in particular use the placebo effect daily, which is also mentioned and disscused in the book.

An important part of primary care physicians and general practitioners in the treatment of pain is rehabilitation, which is devoted to a separate chapter. In addition to the pain itself, we also deal with suffering, especially in the chapter The spiritual dimension of pain.
